[Class 98 (ii).] In apparatus for treating sheet material with one or more liquids the sheet passes from a bath on to an endless travelling band on which it soaks whilst being carried for at least a predetermined minimum time before being transferred therefrom to the next treatment. The sheet may be turned over in passing from one band to another. In one apparatus illustrated the sheet is fed along a guide 11, Fig. 1, between feed rollers 12, one of which is submerged, along a flat submerged plate 16, and is then taken up by the soaking band 17, a friction or roller feed bar 18 being provided to smooth out the sheet. Alternatively an endless band or a helically ribbed roller may be used. For transferring the sheet to the next band 22 leading to squeegee rollers 23, a series of flat fingers 19 pressing the band 17 on a ribbed roller 20, Fig. 3, deflect the band at intervals and engage under the leading edge of the sheet. The sheet is similarly removed from the band 22 by the fingers 25 and a ribbed roller 26, and guided to another travelling band 27 leading through the drying chamber 28 to the delivery roller 29. The parts of the soaking band where the sheet is transferred therefrom may dip into another bath for another liquid treatment. -
