Abstract

355,963. Gear &c. casings. ROSE, A. G. and NORTHERN MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Albion Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Sept. 9, 1930, No. 26865. [Class 12 (ii).] In a gear or other casing 10, in which a shaft 13 extends through the side of the casing and is supported by a bearing 16 in a boss 22, a lubricant passage passes through the boss on the side of the bearing 16 remote from the casing interior, and between the passage and the casing exterior is an annular chamber 29 surrounding an oil thrower 31 and communicating by a drain hole 30 with the inside of the casing. As shown, the outer bearing race ring is held in place by a. sleeve 25 in which the chamber 29 is formed and the lubricant passage is formed by four openings 24 in the boss 22 and four openings 28 in the sleeve 25. A second oil thrower 33 is formed on. the shaft within the passage. The casing at the other end of the shaft is similarly formed except that the chamber 29 is omitted and the sleeve has. an end wall 32 closing the outer end of the boss.. In a modification the outer race ring of the bearing is mounted in the sleeve 25. The bearing sleeve 25 may be omitted and the oil throwing chamber 29 formed directly in the boss 22.
