Abstract
204,835. Barr & Stroud, Ltd., Barr, A., and Barr, A. D. S. Aug. 16, 1922. Self-aligning or spherical-journal bearings comprise a housing D formed in two or more parts 2, 3 assembled about a sphere C, antifriction metal E being cast into the space between the sphere and the housing while the parts are assembled and serving to hold the parts of the housing together. The parts 2, 3 have end flanges, the circular edges 5, 6 of which hold the sphere in position while the antifriction metal is being run in through a hole 7. A vent hole 8 is provided, and an oil hole 9 may be drilled. The interior surface of the parts 2, 3, which may be of brass, is tinned before the metal E is run in. The invention is described in connection with a sleeve-valve A of an internalcombustion engine which is driven from a rotary disc F by a pin B which slides in a bore in the sphere C, the housing D being mounted eccentrically in the disc.
