Abstract

Ball bearings of the combined thrust and journal type, in which the balls B are inserted in a groove c in a shaft C through a radial opening F in the bearing casing A, have a member D, adjustably engaging the casing A, which bears against the shaft so that the balls B bear against the abutment a and are retained out of coincidence with the opening F. As shown, the member D may be a screwed plug having a thrust ball E, or a number of thrust balls may be fitted in the plug to surround the conical end c<1> of the shaft. The balls may be retained in position by a ring riveted round each ball. The plug D need not be screwed and may be formed so that it fits into the interior of the casing.
