Abstract

193,091. Hollis, R. T. Oct. 14, 1921. Liquid, excluding.-A ball or roller bearing 4 is carried in a gland 2 through which the shaft 3 projects and which screws into a recess in a casting 1 containing liquid. At the bottom of the recess 5 packing rings 6, 10 are fitted, the ring 6 having a tapered portion 7 and a convex portion 8 contacting with the concave end 9 of the gland 2. When the gland 2 is rotated the portion 7 of the packing ring 6 is pressed against the shaft and liquid in the casting 1 is prevented from reaching the bearing 4. A lubricator 14 is fitted to the bearing.
