Abstract

Trisazo dyes giving clear greenish-blue shades on cotton and regenerated cellulose are made by diazotizing a sulphonic acid of aniline or a - or b -naphthylamine or a homologue or halogen or alkoxy derivative thereof, coupling with a 2-alkoxy-1-naphthylamine-6- or 7-sulphonic acid, rediazotizing and coupling in alkaline solution with 2:5:7-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid, and again diazotizing and coupling in acid or alkaline solution with a peri-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid or an N-substituted derivative thereof. The preparation of the following dyestuffs is described in examples:-(1) m-xylidine-5-sulphonic acid (or aniline-2:5-disulphonic acid, metanilic acid, o-anisidine-4-sulphonic acid, 1-naphthylamine-2-sulphonic acid or 2 - naphthylamine - 4 : 8 - disulphonic acid) --> 1-amino-2-ethoxy (or methoxy)-6 or 7-sulphonic acid --> 2:5:7-acid --> 1:8-aminonaphthol-3:6- or 2:4-disulphonic acid or -4-sulphonic acid (alkaline coupling) and (2) p-toluidine-3-sulphonic acid (or metanilic acid, 6-chlormetanilic acid or 2-naphthylamine-4-sulphonic acid) --> 1-amino-2-ethoxy (or methoxy)-6 or 7-sulphonic acid --> 2:5:7-acid --> 1 - methylamino - 8 - naphthol-3:6-disulphonic acid or 1-acetyl-(or benzoyl) amino-8-naphthol-2:4-disulphonic acid (alkaline coupling).
