Abstract

351,485. Cutting tobacco &c. LEGG, O., 31, Eyre Street Hill, Clerkenwell, London. March 26, 1930, No. 9620. [Class 5 (i).] In a machine for shredding paper, tobacco, &c., the material is fed from a hopper 39 by a conveyer belt 4 between intermeshed disc cutters on driven shafts 5, 6. Each cutter may comprise a plurality of discs which may be arranged when the outer ones become blunt. The shredded material falls down a shoot 46. A feed roller 16 held in counterbalanced levers 35 is normally in contact with the conveyer and driven by traction. Should an excess of material lift the roller 16, a stationary cam 21 slides a clutch member 20 to engage a member constantly driven by sprocket gearing 25 from a slipping clutch 29 to drive positively the feed roller 16 in a reverse direction. A jockey wheel 37 engaging a sprocket is pressed by a mass 36 to accentuate the intermittent movement derived from the slipping clutch. Grinding rollers may be fitted.
