Abstract

[Class 40 (iv).] In order to prevent magnetic particles fouling the air-gap of a moving- coil loud-speaker or other instrument, the air gap is completely enclosed by non-magnetic shields g, h extending across the gap, other means f being provided for centering and supporting the coil c or diaphragm e. The ring g may be of rigid or semirigid non-magnetic material and the shield h of flexible material, e.g. rubber. To prevent undue elastic restraint on the diaphragm by the air enclosed in the cavity between the shields and the poles, air passages may be provided in the shields or in the polepieces.
