Abstract

351,006. Thermionic cathodes. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Q. R. S.-De Vry Corporation; 333, North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A.) March 15, 1930, No. 8438. [Class 39 (i).] Separate coatings of carbon and of an oxide or carbonate of an alkali or alkaline-earth metal are applied to the core which is heated to effect an appreciable conversion of the compound to a carbide. A nickel, platinum, or nickel-silicon core is coated first with graphite or soot and secondly with one or more of the oxides or carbonates of barium, strontium, or calcium. A further coating of carbon may be added. The coatings may be applied to the interior only of a hollow cathode.
