Abstract
521,992. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 30, 1938, No. 34945. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] A photo-sensitive mosaic electrode has on a mica base 14 a layer 16 of higher metal-oxide such as manganese dioxide, vanadic' oxide, chromic oxide or stannic oxide i.e. an oxide higher than the monoxide. On this is deposited the usual discrete oxidized silver elements 17 which are sensitized with caesium 18; the caesium which falls on the layer 16 between the discrete elements becomes oxidized reducing the metal oxide to the monoxide and itself losing its conducting property. The metal oxide may be formed on the mica base inside the cathode ray tube or before the base is inserted in the tube. The discrete elements are deposited on the metal-oxide either from finely divided silver oxide or from a film of silver subsequently segregated into particles and oxidized. The back of the mica base has the usual continuous conducting layer.
