Abstract

348,259. Fluid-actuated valves. OAKLEY, E. C. F., 26, Kilmartin Avenue, Norbury, London. Feb. 28, 1930, Nos. 6695 and 13038. [Class 135.] Check lift valves.-A non-return valve particularly adapted for use in connection with petrol pumps comprises two independently operating superimposed closure members 13, 26, the lower one 13 being adapted to close in advance of the upper one which is fitted with vanes 7 to impart a rotary movement so that impurities are thrown clear of the seat. In the form shown in the Figure the casing is made in two parts 1, 2 the part 1 being provided with an upstanding seat 5 for the valve 26, while the part 2 has a perforated stop plate 15 adapted to engage a projection 16 on the valve. The valve 26 has a guide stem engaging a sleeve 10 supported by webs 11 and the valve 13 which co-operates with a seat 14 has a guide spindle 12 slidably mounted in the spindle 9. In a modification the closure comprises a plane surface co-operating with a knife-edge and the guide is arranged eccentrically. In a further modification the seat for the valve 26 is formed on a detachable member pressed against a knife-edge shoulder in the casing by a ported nut which serves as a seat for the valve 13. In this form the lift of the valve 26 is limited by a spring ring sprung into a groove on the guide spindle. The valve 26 may have a hard steel face secured by soldering or otherwise.
