Abstract
348,219. Prepayment mechanism for gas &c. meters. WEST, A. J. and GAS METER CO., Ltd., 238, Kingsland Road, Bethnal Green, London. Feb. 15, 1930, No. 5156. [Class 27.] To enable a gas or like meter to be operated as a prepayment meter by coins of different denominations or as an ordinary meter, a meterdriven shaft g is provided with a worm h slidably but non-rotationally mounted thereon. A measuring-out screw p has fixed thereto a worm wheel a and a toothed wheel b connected by reduction gearing to a second worm wheel f. The worm h is moved into engagement with the wheels a, f according as pennies or shillings are to be used, or is moved out of mesh with either, if the meter is to be used as an ordinary meter. The worm h is carried in a guide member m which may be locked in various positions on a fixed plate n by means of a thumb-screw o. Specification 247,732, [Class 27, Coin-freed apparatus &c.], is referred to.
