Gas, supplying by meter; coin action, thrust and multiple-coin.- A coin-freed mechanism for gas and similar meters of the kind described in Specification 261,831 is adapted for use with coins of different value. The, coin holder f , Fig. 3, mounted on a rotatable disc f<1> behind a stationary adjustable price-changing disc e<1>, contains a slide n, which is pressed down against the action of a spring h<2> by the coin, when it is inserted. The slide g engages the tail of a lever h, pivoted at h<1> to the holder f and having a tooth h<3>, which, by the movement of the slide g, is caused to engage a fixed measuring wheel a. The bottom of the slide g is formed as a rack or with teeth g<1> to engage with the tail of the lever h, and, when it is desired to adjust the meter to operate with a coin of different value, the slide g is moved to adjust the coin space and the engagememt of the lever h with the teeth g<1> is adjusted accordingly. The lever h may be connected to the slide g by a screw pin passing through a hole in one and through one of a series of holes in the other of the two parts; or the fulcrum of the lever h may be adjustable. The measuring-wheel rotates a squared spindle b on which an externally threaded sleeve d, Fig. 1, slides to open and close. the valve. The sleeve d screws past a pinion i to open the valve and is returned by the pinion acting on a rack The pinion i is loose on a spindle j driven by the meter and is clutched thereto to be driven directly, for one value of coin by a pinion l<1> carried by a sleeve slidable on a squared portion of the spindle j. The pinion l<1> engages a recess i<2> which leaves projecting teeth on the pinion i. When it is de. sired to use a coin of higher value, the pinion l<1> is declutched and the spindle j then drives through the pinion l<1>, pinions m<2>, m<1> on a countershaft m, the pinion m<1> gearing with a pinion i<1> integral with the pinion i. The sleeve l with its pinion; l<1> is locked in its adjusted posi. tions by a pivoted catch plate o provided with a handle o<1>.
