Gas, supplying by meter.-A prepayment meter for use, in hotel bedrooms &c. and adapted to be. readily zeroized comprises a, coin-actuated crown wheel having a pawl g engaging a ratchet wheel f with sufficient, resistance to drive it, when the crown wheel is rotated after prepayment, but which allows the ratchet wheel to be rotated in the reverse direction to close. the valve by means of a key, backward movement of the crown wheel being prevented by a pawl. The valve is operated by a flange d on a screwed travelling spindle c engaging a wheel nut b in mesh with a meterdriven worm a. The spindle has a slidable connection by means of a pin f<4> with a slotted sleeve f<2> rigid with the ratchet wheel f and formed with a member f<1> adapted to have a screw-driver or equivalent engagement with a key i inserted coaxially with the crown wheel through the operating handle. The slot in the sleeve f<2> is closed to limit the movement of the mechanism by the key and prevent strain. A ratchet wheel m coaxial with the operating handle and controlled by a pawl n on the front plate l has a key connection with the key i and allows this to be rotated in one direction only. Indicators.-An unconsumed gas indicator o is rotated by a rod p pivoted eccentrically thereto, the rod p being pivotally carried at its other end by a rod g secured to a ring q<1> rotatably mounted on the spindle c. A slotted rod q<2> guides the rod q.
