Gas, supplying by meter.-The gas valve q, Fig. 1, carried by an arm r on a spindle s is operated by a. threaded collar k which travels on a screw j, Fig. 10, and engages a forked cam-plate t on the other end of the spindle. The screw j is rotated, on prepayment, to open the valve, and the collar k is rotated to close the valve bv a slotted sleeve m passing through the collar and provided with a crown-wheel n which is driven through a pinion o and shaft p by the metering- mechanism. When the maximum number of coins has been inserted, further rotation of the screw is prevented, until some gas is consumed, by clutch teeth on the collar k engaging teeth on a collar keyed to the screw. Coin action, mechanical-connection. - A coin inserted in the pivoted carrier a engages a cam on the back of the price-changer d when the carrier is rotated, and rocks the carrier to bring a tooth g thereon into engagement with a toothed quantity wheel h on the screw j. Indicators.-The amount of gas prepaid but unconsumed is indicated by a pointer on a rod w twisted to act as a screw of coarse pitch and having threaded thereon a member v folded to engage and travel with the collar k.
