Fixed - chamber apparatus. - Relates to apparatus having a vertically adjustable overflow pipe arranged in a measuring chamber ritted with a safety cock rotating in one direction only and a registering device, and consists in providing a particular construction of connecting means between the adjustable tube, the cock and registering device to obviate fraud. Petrol is normally supplied to the glass chamber 2 through the adjustable overflow pipe 5 which communicates with the supply tank, by producing a vacuum in the chamber 2 by means of an electrically driven reversible pump acting through a suction pipe 6. A hand pump 34, pipe 35, passage 36 and pipe 38 supply liquid in an emergency. To the tube 5 is attached a rack 8 which may be moved by a pinion 9 and held in one of several positions hy a spring bolt 10 engaging one of several recesses 10<1>. The discharge cock comprises a tapered plug 11 having a recess 12. The plug may be turned in the clockwise direction, Fig. 1, only by means of a nut 13, Fig. 2, moved by a hand wheel and into which is screwed the shank 14 of the plug. To open the cock the nut it rotated and abutting against the thrust bearing 15 the plug is first moved slightly longitudinally away from its tapered recess and then rotates with the nut. When the rotation stops, the spring 16 causes the plunger to unscrew slightly from the nut and to bind in its seating. At each revolution the counter 17 is actuated from the plug 11 through gearing 18 - - 21, and a ratchet wheel 2. Upon the shank 24 of the plug cock is a slidable drum 23 which rotates with the plug and is provided with five teeth of decreasing length so that according to the longitudinal position of the drum the ratchet wheel 22 will be actuated by one to five teeth and the counter moved the corresponding number of units. On the controlling shaft 26 is mounted the pinion 9 in one with a worm which is engaged by the end of a rod 29 mounted on a shaft 31 which is rocked as the shaft 26 rotates. This causes rocking of the arm 32 which engaging the drum 23 pushes it axially against the influence of a spring 33. Formed on the drum 23 are five annular projections 41 which are interrupted for about one quarter of their circumference. The interrupted part is engaged by the spring part 42 when the cock is near the opening position. As soon as the cock is closed the pawl occupies one of the annular grooves so that the counter must be actuated correspondingly to the adjustment of the tube on opening the cock. Also the cock cannot be opened unless the tube is in one of its selected positions.
