[Class 27] Coin-action, thrust and multiple-coin.- Relates to meter prepayment mechanism of the type in which adaptation of the coin pocket for receiving coins of either of two denominations is accompanied by a corresponding adjustment of change-speed gearing between the meter and quantity mechanisms. A meter driven shaft carries a pinion 14 which drives the screw 9 of the quantity mechanism either through pinions 19 and 16, or pinions 20, 21, 15, according to the setting, by means of a finger-piece 24, of a sliding carriage 18 carrying the pinions 19, 20 and 21. A member m axially slidable on the rotatable coin pocket b is coupled with arms 28 on the carriage 18 by levers 29, and operates through a lever v a slide p for adjusting the size of the coin slot, and through a lever r carrying a pin v passing through a slot in the coin pocket, a pivoted auxiliary coin abutment s which is moved into a position adjacent to a main abutment x when the carriage is set for smaller coins. Indicators.-A pointer 11 carried by the commodity controlling nut 10 indicates the amount of commodity unconsumed, separate scales for the two coins being provided in a drum 12, which is rotated to bring either into view by movement of the carriage 18. Coin-slot closing devices.-Coin slots in the coin pocket carrier plate c and in an outer plate e carrying the operating handle f normally coincide. The two plates are pivoted together at h, and relative rotation, determined by a pin-and-slot connection i, j, occurs between them during initial rotation of the handle, immediate rotation of the plate e about its central axis being prevented by engagement of an extension k in a slot l in the casing.
