455,933. Prepayment mechanism for meters. GLOVER & CO., Ltd., G., and STAPLES. C. W., Royal Avenue, Chelsea, London. May 20, 1935, No. 14685. [Class 27] Coin action, multiple-coin.-In a prepayment meter which can be set for use with either of two coins, a pivoted supplementary coin support, adapted to be moved into contact with the main coin support within a rotatable coin pocket when set for use with the smaller coin, is interconnected by a lever with a shutter for partially obscuring the coin slot. As shown, the main coin support c is pivoted at d and the supplementary support g at h within the coin pocket b. The supplementary support g is moveable into its alternative positions by a finger piece i working in a slot j in the coin pocket, the finger piece i being retractable against spring action to engage in locating apertures at either end of the slot j. The finger piece i also operates a pivoted shutter k, for adjusting the size of the coin insertion slot m, through the medium of a lever n pivoted at o to the coin pocket, this lever having a slot engaging the finger piece i and a second slot 24 engaging a pin 23 on the shutter k. To change the gear ratio between the meter driven shaft 6 and the screw-threaded shaft 8 of the quantity mechanism to correspond with the coin for which the coin pocket is set, a pivoted plate p is provided carrying a pair of coaxial gears 17, 18 and an alternative gear 16. In one position of the plate p, determined by a finger piece r engageable in apertures at either end of a slot in a plate t, the gear 16 connects a pinion 7 secured to the meter driven shaft 6 with a pinion 14 on the screw-threaded shaft 8, whilst in the alternative position of the plate p, the connection is provided by the gears 17, 18 meshing respectively with a gear 15 on the shaft 8 and the pinion 7. Indicators.-An indicator dial y carried by a pivoted lever x having a pin-and-slot connection with the gear change plate p shows the consumer which coin the meter is set for.
