[Class 27.] A coin-freed meter is adapted for use with two coins of different size. The coin A, inserted through a slot 31 into the pocket 27, depresses a spring-retracted plate 32 coupled by a link 35 to a pivoted pawl 34. The size of the coin A determines whether the pawl 34 shall engage a large quantity wheel 25 or a small quantity wheel 22, coins of sizes other than the two specified ones bringing the pawl 34 to an ineffective position. The wheel 25 is mounted on a sleeve 24 carrying a pinion 23 which through gearing 16, 15, 14 rotates a crown wheel 13 of a differential 11 and imparts a multiplied number of rotations to a valveoperating spindle 10. The wheel 22 is mounted on a sleeve 21 fixed to the other crown wheel 20 of the differential 11, and imparts rotation to the spindle 10 directly through the differential. In operation, a price changer disc 28 is adjusted to the required position, the coin is inserted, and the knob 29 is turned till the coin drops through an outlet 18<a> thus rotating the wheel 25 or the wheel 22, the plate 32 is then returned by its spring and frees the pawl 34 to allow the knob to be turned back without affecting the wheels 22 or 25. Stops limit the travel of the pawl 34 and a pin 39 guides the plate 32. In a modification the pawl 34 is in the form of a plate engaging the plate 32 by pin and slot connection.
