Abstract
570,209. Coin-freed meters. LANDIS & GYR SOG. ANON. Sept. 23, 1942, No. 13378. Convention date, Jan. 8. Addition to 550,395,and 563,041. [Class 27] In a coin-freed meter of the kind in which insertion of the coin stores energy which is released during the insertion to complete the in-taking of the coin and the setting of the quantity of the metered commodity for delivery, and of the kind claimed in the parent Specifications, the coin slide is coupled with a ring sliding on the coin drum and carrying the different gear members corresponding to the coins usable for prepayment which set the quantity shaft. The coin pocket 41 slides between walls 52 in the coin drum 2 and has sliding in it a slide 3 having a rod 67 guided in slots 76 in the pocket 68 and in the walls 52, and slots 69 in the coin drum, and attached to a ring 70 sliding on the drum. The drum is journalled in a flange 51 of the casing in front and is of spherical form, and at the rear in a plate 50 where it carries a bevel gear 57 meshing with a bevel gear 59 fast on a spindle 60, fast with a disc 66 attached to one end of the spring 27 and carrying a cam 30 which engages a member 31 to switch on the metered commodity. The gear 57 has a wide opening through which passes a rack 54 sliding in bearings 58 and cranked at the end 55 so that, urged by a surrounding spring 53, it presses the coin pocket 41 to its outer position, through a slot 4 in the casing when the drum is in normal position. A second guiding pin 75 in the slide 3 moves in the slots in the pocket and the walls 52. The ring 70 carries three circular racks 71, 72 and 73 which engage a pinion 11 on the quantity setting shaft 12 of the meter appropriate respectively to coins of value 6, 12 and 1. The racks are thin and the pinion has cheeks 74, Fig. 4, projecting beyond the root circle of the teeth of the racks which have bevelled ends 89 to avoid damage ; the slots 68 having small extensions 90 to allow slight yielding of the ring also. A rod 77 on the slide 3 engages a fixed cam path 80, 81, 82 surrounding the drum so as to remove the pressure of the slide 3 on the coin and allow it to drop into the coin receptacle. When a coin is inserted and the pocket 41 pressed in, the rack 54 turns a pinion 61, loose on the shaft 60, and with it a ratchet wheel 62 to drive round a pawl 63 on a ratchet wheel 64 carrying round the end'of the spring 27 which is held energized by a detent 65. When the coin pocket is fully pressed in the disc 66 and shaft 60 is turned to rotate the drum, set the quantity shaft 12, and turn on the commodity as parts 30, 31 engage.
