Abstract
470,063. Prepayment mechanism for meters. SUTHERLAND & SONS, Ltd., J. G., and SUTHERLAND, J. G. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3139. [Class 27] In prepayment mechanism for meters in which a screw mechanism for controlling the supply valve is set forward proportionately to the value of the coin inserted by measuring wheels selectively operable by coins of different values, the measuring wheels o, p, q, are adapted for a free - wheel action in one direction by friction clutch springs 5 incorporated in the respective wheel mountings. The wheels o, q are fixed to the reduced end n of a slotted sleeve m enclosing a travelling screw l to which is attached a ring v for controlling the valve lever, the ring v having keys which engage in the slots u in the sleeve. The other wheel p is loose on the part n and is geared to the wheel q by wheels r, s, t. The wheels o, p are engaged and rotated by strikers i, j associated with a rotatable coin pocket e and brought into action by a shilling and a penny respectively. The screw l passes through a wheel nut x rotatable by the meter to return the ring v to valveclosing position. Indicators.-The ring v engages an arm 9 depending from a rack 11 which rotates a wheel 12 on an indicator 8. When the maximum number of coins has been inserted at a time, the rack 11 allows a pawl 14 to drop and prevent any further rotation of the coin pocket until some of the prepaid gas has been consumed.
