348,017. Ships' hatch covers. TELL, E. E. VON, 20, Frolundagatan, Gothenburg, Sweden. Jan. 29, 1930, No. 3111. [Class 113 (i).] Hatch covers comprising pairs of rigid cover sections fitting on the coamings with a watertight joint one section of each pair being hinged to the coaming and also to the second free section are provided at points such as B, C, Fig. 6, where the longitudinal and transverse joints for the cover sections meet each other with tightening devices which effect both the vertical joint and the longi. tudinal joint surfaces. As shown in Fig. 4, which includes the derrick gear for handling the hatches, the free section 7 is wider than the section 8 hinged to the coaming whereby when the hatch is opened the section can take up the position shown on the left-hand side of the Figure. The packing shown in Fig. 7 comprises the vertical section 25 arranged in the neighbourhood of the hinge between the stiffening angle and the coamings 10. A packing 26 is also placed at the free end of the section between the joggled edge and the angle-bars. The fastening cleat 35 works on the pivot pin 36. Other fastening cleats are described, including a form carried by the cover section. Specification 241,677, [Class 113 (i), Ship and boat fittings, &c.], is referred to.
