Abstract

347,275. Detachable wheels. BAYLISS, G. T., LINNETT, A. J., and RUDGEWHITWORTH, Ltd., Rudge Works, Crow Lane, Coventry. Jan. 25, 1930, No. 2680. [Class 144 (i).] A detachable wirespoked wheel is formed with a onepiece hub-shell of increasing diameter from the outer to the inner end, the outer end having an inturned flange with one or more cone seatings to co-operate with threaded attachment-means, concentric supporting-means being provided at the inner end of the shell. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inner end of the hub-shell 7 is formed with a flange 8 having flared bosses 8<1> to fit over the coned heads 9 of the driving-studs 6. The outer flanged end 11 of the shell is formed with a coned seating 12 to co-operate with a central attachment-nut 14. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the inner end of the hub-shell 23 is flanged to engage a conical shoulder on the brake-drum, the flange 24 at the outer end having coned apertures for the attachment bolts 25. In further modifications, the inner end of the hub-shell is coned to seat on the coned edge of the permanent-hub flange. The hub-shell and the brake-drum may be formed with serrated edges to engage corresponding surfaces on the permanenthub.
