Abstract

429,258. Vehicle wheels. BAKER, F. W., High House, Oldswinford, Stourbridge, Worcestershire. Aug. 24, 1933, Nos. 23516/33, 30152/33, and 22765/34. [Class 144 (i)] A detachable wheel device comprises a large-diameter hub-shell having a coned seat on an extension of the brake-drum forming the sole axial abutment between the permanent and detachable hub elements, interengaging driving-projections being provided on these elements at or adjacent the seat. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the hubshell 28 and brake-drum 16 are formed with coned portions 30, 18 and interengaging projections 42, 44. The wheel is secured by a central nut 40 having an internally-coned flange 38 which engages the coned end 36 of the hub-shell. Fig. 2 shows a bolted-on type of wheel in which the driving- projections are provided on the cylindrical portions of the hub-shell and brake-drum. The cap-nuts 54 are flanged to prevent complete withdrawal from the closed end 52 of the hub-shell. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the hub-shell is reinforced by a flanged ring 66. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which the hub-shell 28 is formed integral with the wheel-disc 70, the outer side of the wheel being closed by a thin sheet-metal disc 74.
