346,950. Stop valves; accessories. SPEARING, K. A., 1, Clements Inn, Strand, London. March 19, 1930, No. 8844. [Class 135.] Locking catches.-An automatic locking device for preventing the opening of a steam stop valve until the steam-pipe has been drained of water comprises a ratchet and pawl or equivalent unidirectional restraining device associated with a thermal arrangement heated from the water drain pipe so that when the drainage valve has been opened and the drain-pipe is free of water and steam is passing the consequent rise of temperature therein releases the catch pawl and allows the main valve to be opened. The copper &c. water drain pipe 2 is adjustably secured at one end 3 in a channel-section frame 1 and is provided with lugs 5, 6 engaging a cranked member 7 pivoted to the frame 1. The crank 7 engages a pivoted bracket 8 carrying an adjustable spring-pressed pawl 9 engaging teeth 10 on a ratchet formed on the operating wheel 11. The pawl device allows the hand-wheel 11 to be operated to close the valve at any time.
