346,692. Rope couplings. CHILDS, H. W., Raven Street, Kaiapoi, Canterbury, New Zealand. Jan. 2, 1930, No. 205. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1929. [Class 109.] A clamp for connecting cables comprises a pair of members 1, 2 that slide together, the sliding surfaces being set at an angle to the gripping surfaces 7 so that the size of the bore is decreased as the two members are forced into engagement, the gripping surfaces remaining parallel. The member 1 may have a gap 3, Figs. 3 and 4, so that it can be placed over a continuous cable, the gap being closed by the member 2 that has flanges 4 sliding in grooves 5. Where the ends of two cables are to be connected, a closed member 1, Fig. 5, may be used, the member 2 being enclosed within it and the surface 6 being the inclined surface. The surface of the bore may be serrated and the curvature is suited to the diameter of the cables. A pair of such clamps may be formed integrally, one cable only being gripped in each clamp, and the clamps may be at any angle.
