Abstract

Tools for working hot metal under conditions involving heavy shock and rubbing contact under high pressure, such as plugs for plug-rolling tubes, billet guides for tube-piercing mills, and pipe balls, are made from an iron-chromium-nickel alloy containing about 24 per cent of chromium, 10 per cent of nickel, and 1 per cent of carbon. Up to about 2,5 per cent of silicon and 1,5 per cent of manganese may be present, and also small amounts of tungsten and vanadium.
