Abstract

Sizes for textile fibres particularly for vegetable or artificial silk fibres consist of emulsions of oils, fats, resins, or mixtures of these substances dispersed in casein, gelatine or shellac with the aid of borax or alkali or ammonium borates as dispersing agents. Sodium or other soluble silicate is added to the emulsion to give a colloid which forms an irreversible gel on drying.ALSO:To prevent textile fibres sticking together after being sized, the sized material is treated in a bath consisting of solutions of formates, acetates or sulphocyanides of metals such as calcium, zinc, aluminium or lead, to which acetic acid may be added. The fibres, particularly vegetable or artificial silk fibres, are sized by emulsions of oils, fats, or resins dispersed in casein, gelatine or shellac with the aid of borax, or alkali or ammonium borates as dispersing agents, to which a soluble silicate is added to give a colloid which forms an irreversible gel on drying.ALSO:Sizes for textile fibres, particularly for vegetable and artificial silk fibres, consist of emulsions of oils, fats, resins or mixtures of these substances dispersed in casein, gelatine or shellac with the aid of borax, or alkali or ammonium borates as dispersing agents. To prevent the threads of a skein sticking together after sizing, the sized materials are treated in a bath consisting of solutions of formates, acetates or sulphocyanides of metals such as calcium, zinc, aluminium, or lead to which acetic acid may be added.
