Abstract
Textile materials having loosely attached superficial fibres, such as used for sacks, are smoothed by the deposition of cellulose xanthate in viscous form on the surface of the material, causing superficial fibres to adhere to the surface, e.g. by rolling or pressing, and drying. The textile material may be treated before or after the application of the xanthate with a weak acid solution, e.g. boric or acetic acid.
