Abstract

345,091. Screw propellers. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Hamilton Standard Propeller Corporation ; 221, West 7th Avenue, West Homestead, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) March 18, 1930, No. 8707. [Class 114.] A screw propeller with detachable adjustable blades is formed with the base of each blade having a solid flange-like annular bearing or abutment adapted to seat on a corresponding annular face on the hub to take up stresses imparted to the blade under temporary heavy load or blade flutter. The blades 12 are mounted on supports 11 on the boss and have roller bearings 16, 27 and 15 which take the normal stresses. The base of the sleeve 18 of each blade has an annular flange member 28 adapted to rest on a seat 29 on a flange 31 on the hub 10. The periphery of a bearing 28 is notched to form lugs to take a spanner when as. sembling the blades. The flanges 31 are reinforced by ribs 32 extending across the hub. These ribs afford guides 33 for sliding members 34 which have a pivotal connection through yokes 35 with lugs 36 on collars 37 freed to the blades whereby pitch adjustment is effected. In a modified form where wooden blades are employed the blades are held by clamps which may be adjusted for securing static balance of the propeller.
