344,669. Linear - dimension gauges. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Roberts, J. L.; 47, Ray Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) March 10, 1930, No. 7748. Convention date, March 8, 1929. [Class 106 (ii).] An eccentricity indicator for a turbine or other rotating shaft is mounted in proximity to the rotor and an intermediate member is provided which may be manually moved into engagement with the rotor surface against disengaging biassing means. In the example shown, the concentric surface is formed by a disc 20 coned to enter a recess in the end of the rotor to which it is secured by a bolt. A rod 25 extends at right-angles to the rotor from near the periphery of the disc 20 through the top of the cover-plate 15 and has guide blocks 26 sliding in a guide tube 27 threaded in blocks 28, 29 fastened to the cover 15. The upper block 28 has threaded therein a sleeve 30 with an extension adapted to engage the upper guide block 26. The lower end of the rod 25 projects through the block 29. A spring 31 pressing against the lower guide block 26 brings the upper guide block 26 into engagement with the sleeve 30. A grip piece 32 serves to turn the sleeve to adjust the clearance between the rod 25 and the surface of the disc 20, and a grip piece 33 on the rod aids in manually pressing the rod into contact with the disc. A deflection indicator 35 is adjustably supported on a rod 34, the contact plunger engaging the part 33. In use, when starting the turbine slowly, the rod 25 is moved down at intervals until it is safe to bring the turbine up to full load.
