Abstract

479,885. Bearings. SANGAMO ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 14, 1936, No. 22471. Convention date, May 8. [Class 12 (i)] A jewel bearing 17 for the pivot 19 of electric meters and other instruments is held ir position by a retaining member 25 in which the jewel and the members between which it i: to be secured are so shaped relatively to each other that the jewel is centred automatically with respect to the axis of the bearing member upon engage ment of the jewel by the retaining mem ber 25. As shown, the retaining member 25 is a ring which fits tightly ir a cup 14 and has a conical portion 26 engaging a correspondingly shaped surface on the jewel 17. The latter has clearance in the cup 14 and is seated on a paper or like washer 20. The cup 14 has a flange 15 and is a push fit in a bore 11 formed in the upper end of the bearing screw 8 mounted in the instrument frame. The bored portion 11 has slots 12 which give it a spring gripping action and permit the insertion of a tool below the cap 14 for removing the latter when dismantling.
