Abstract

344,517. Road vehicle hoods. PAGE, C. E. and PAGE, E. G., Claremont, Staines Road, East Bedfont, Middlesex. Dec. 9, 1929, Nos. 37682/29 and 16342/30. [Class 108 (i).] In roofs of the closed vehicle type in which a covering and an inner lining is wound on a single spring-controlled roller which is positively actuated by gear, chains, &c., means are provided coupled with the actuating mechanism for drawing the covering and lining off the roller and taking up any slack in the covering. The cover 3 and the lining 4 are mounted on a spring-controlled roller 2 in a housing 6. The cover 3 is at the front secured to a floating hoopstick 7 and the lining to a hoopstick 8 connected to the front hoopstick 7 by a coiled spring 9 tending to separate the hoopsticks to take up slack in the outer covering 3. The roller 2 is actuated by worm gear 16, 17, and spindles 13, 14 with bevel gears 15 and the hoopstick 8 is drawn forwardly by tapes, chains, &c., 18 from pulleys 19 on the spindle 13. A plate 12 secured to the front hoopstick 7 bridges the gap between the hoopsticks 7, 8. Hoopsticks arranged between the hoopstick 8 and the rear may be provided and interconnected by any suitable means.
