Abstract
344,224. Centrifugal machines. BROADBENT & SONS, Ltd., T. and LEVETT, J. V., Central Iron Works, Huddersfield. March 5, 1930, No. 7151. [Class 23.] Driving, suspending, balancing.-A centrifugal machine b is driven directly by an electric motor d and the complete set is supported on a yielding buffer h arranged coaxially with the spindle c when the latter is in its position of rest. The buffer h, Fig. 1, is tapered to fit in the frusto-conical recess in the motor housing, and over the sleeve i supported by the thrust bearing j. A braking surface r<1> is provided on the underside of the basket b or on the rotor of the motor. The reaction torque on the motor housing d<1> is taken by a flexible strap o secured at its ends to projections from the base a. In a modification the lower end of the spindle is journalled in a member which is recessed to bear upon the buffer h. In another modification the stator p of the motor rests upon the buffer h as shown in Fig. 5, and the rotor r is in the form of a ring member depending from the basket b.
