Abstract

Driving, suspending, balancing.-The cage of a centrifugal machine is carried by a shaft f the lower end of which is rounded and slotted to engage a pin i secured to the socket g carried by the sleeve a. This sleeve surrounds the shaft f and carries the rotor b of the driving motor; the sleeve rests on a footstep bearing e adjustable in height. The spindle is supported at a point along its length by a spring h which tends to damp oscillation. In a modification, a friction clutch is introduced between the sleeve and shaft. The end of the shaft f, Fig. 2, engages the pin i carried by the clutch part k which has an outer conical surface engaging the surface of the part j carried by the sleeve a.
