Abstract

301,539. Rushton, J. L., and Hartley, W. Sept. 1, 1927. Spindle apparatus. - A centrifugal spinning-cup 24 is supported by a shaft 23 the point of flexure of which is situated near that end of the bearing for the rigidly supported shaft 17 which is remote from the cup. The shaft 17 is hollow and is supported in bushes 15, 16 held in lugs on the casing 10; it is driven through worm gear from the shaft 11. The lower end 20 of the shaft 17 is spherical and rests upon the abutment 21 carried by the casing. The lower part 22 of the shaft 23 is reduced in diameter and fits tightly in the lower part of the shaft 17; it is also secured by a cotter pin 25. The reduced portion 22 of the cup shaft provides the desired flexibility and sufficient play is allowed by the bore of the shaft 17. A laterally movable bearing 26 for the cup shaft may be provided at the top of the casing.
