Abstract
1,036,495. Driving spindles. J. J. KEYSER. Aug, 4, 1964 [July 30, 1963], No. 31203/64. Heading D1D. A spinning spindle comprises means whereby a bobbin tube may be freely rotatably mounted on the spindle shank and clutch means whereby drive may be transmitted from the wharl to the tube. As shown in Fig. 1, a stationary spindle shank 1 has a freely rotatable and pivoted member 5 at its upper end to carry a bobbin tube 4 the lower end of which is adjacent the upper face of an extension 14 of the wharl 15. A sleeve 12, having a conical upper portion is rotatably mounted by a bearing 13 on the wharl extension 14 and is axially movable relative thereto. Three equi-angularly spaced clutch members 19 lie in radial apertures in an upward extension of the inner part of bearing 13 and are normally pressed against the foot of the tube 4 by the conical portion of the sleeve 12 which is downwardly urged by a spring 16, so that drive is transmitted from the wharl to the tube. If sleeve 12 is lifted the clutch portions 19 move outwardly by centrifugal action and drive to the tube is interrupted. To accommodate varying lengths of bobbin tube the shank 1 is adjustable in a resilient locating member 3. In a further form, vertical arms are pivoted inside an upward extension of the wharl and in normal operation clutch feet on the upper end of the arms are pressed against the inside of tube 4 by centrifugal action to transmit rotation thereto. The lower ends of the arms are bevelled and engageable by a bevel ring which is upwardly or downwardly movable by rotation of a shaft lying within the shank 1. On upward movement of the ring the lower ends of the arms are forced outwardly and then the upper ends move inwardly to suspend the drive. In Fig. 4 shank 44 is constantly driven by wharl 48 via a taper joint 49. A tube 4 is rotatably mounted on the shank by a member 46 and a bearing 58. On the outer part of bearing 58 is a sleeve 57 having an enlarged lower extension 56 in which slides a further sleeve 55 carrying a ring magnet 53, the sleeve 55 having portions which pass through vertical slots in sleeve 56 so that the magnet 53 may be vertically adjusted by a ring 59 on the outside of the assembly. A further ring magnet 52 is arranged on a flange 51 attached to the driven shank 44 and by moving magnet 53 close to or away from magnet 52 drive to tube 4 may be transmitted or interrupted.
