Convention date, July 31, 1929. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to the manufacture, in continuous sheets, of patterned, ribbed, or hammermarked glass by rolling. According to the invention, an engraved roller which impresses the pattern on the glass forms the upper one of a pair of sheet-forming rollers, and it can be put in place or interchanged without stopping the rolling machine or the flow of glass from the tank furnace. For this purpose, a movable gate is used to reduce the thickness of the stream of glass flowing from the tank so that a strip of glass continues to pass over the lower roller while the engraved roller is being replaced. The time required for changing can be reduced by using two engraved rollers mounted in a frame in such a manner that they oan be interchanged by a simple movement of translation or rotation.
