Abstract
368,073. Glass manufacture. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., 631, Tower Building, Water Street, Liverpool, and UHTHOFF, R. K., Crank House, Crank, near St. Helens, Lancashire. March 13, 1931, No. 7790. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to the manufacture of plate glass having a pattern impressed on one surface. According to the invention, molten glass is rolled into a strip 5 between an upper smooth roller 2 and a lower pattern roller 1, and the rolled strip 5 is led backwards below the pattern roller so that the impressed surface does not make contact with any solid body. The strip is deflected below the roller 1 by a curved bed 6 and is led on to a roller bed 7. The rollers 7, or some of them, are positively driven so as to exert a tractive force on the strip 5 to prevent it from buckling when passing over the bed 6. The molten glass is fed continuously on to the rollers from a conduit 4, and it may be rolled into a thick strip by a pair of smooth rollers before passing between the rollers 1, 2.
