Abstract
347,588. Glass manufacture. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., 631, Tower Building, Water Street, Liverpool, and WALDRON, F. B., Norwood, Eccleston Park, Prescot, Lancashire. Dec. 28, 1929, No. 39677. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Apparatus for rolling glass has one or both of the forming-rollers 1, 2 mounted in yielding bearings, and the thickness of the glass is determined by one or two auxiliary rollers 4 which are mounted in fixed bearings 5, and are provided with collars 6 in rolling-contact with the forming-rollers 1. The two collars are separated on the roller 4 by a distance from one-half to two-thirds of the width of the glass strip formed by the rollers 1, 2. The purpose of this construction is to minimize the variations in the thickness of the glass due to the warping of the forming-roller. The auxiliary rollers 4 may be used to drive the forming-roller by the frictional contact of the collars with the roller. The lower roller, 2, may be replaced by a table.
