Abstract
380,425. Making plate glass. BRANCART, Y., Verreries de Fauquez, RonquiÞres, Belgium. July 20,1932, No. 20541. [Class 56.] Relates to the production of plate glass free from surface undulations, by the method described in Specification 336,921, [Class 56, Glass], in which a roller is rotated at a higher circumferential speed than if it were rolling over the glass, and the plastic sheet is impressed with slight depressions which disappear as the glass cools. According to the present invention, the impressing roller is so supported above the casting table that the table does not make contact with the roller itself or with its trunnions. In the construction shown, the roughsurfaced impressing-roller 2 has its trunnions 2<1> journalled in bearings 10 which are supported by means of wheels 11 on the edges of the casting table 1. The roller is rotated by a cable 4 secured at its ends 12 to the table 1 and wound around a pulley keyed to the roller. The table moves along a roller track and its movement rotates the roller, but the table may be kept stationary if desired and the roller moved over its surface.
