Abstract
347,589. Glass manufacture. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., 631, Tower Building, Water Street, Liverpool, and LE MARE, E. B., Holly Mount, Laurel Road, St. Helens, Lancashire. Dec. 28, 1929, No. 39678. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to the method of marking sheet or plate glass in which molten glass is formed by rollers 1 into a continuous strip 5 that is drawn over beds 2, 3 by the tractive effort of the leer rollers 4. At the start of the operation, the propelling action of the rollers 1 is not sufficient to force the strip 5 over the beds 2, 3 to the leer. The invention consists in attaching to each side of the bed 3 a bar 6 in which notches 9 are formed at regular intervals. The notches act as fulcra for bars which are used to lever the strip 5 along the bed 3 until it rests on and is drawn by the leer rollers 4. The bars can be replaced by any other construction that provides a series of fulcra along the sides of the bed.
