Abstract

Rolling.-Relates to a method of making sheet glass in which molten glass, issuing from a horizontal slot a in the wall of a tank or forehearth, flows over an inclined slab f to a pass between rollers d, e by which the sheet is formed. According to the invention, the space above the slab is enclosed by a top slab g and side members h, and the slabs f, g and the members h are made hollow so that they can be heated by flames from burners directed into the internal spaces. The side members h may be movable so that they can be used to adjust the width of the stream of glass or to close the opening of the slot a. The slot is also formed in a hollow member c the interior of which can be heated by burners.
