Abstract
356,563. Glass manufacture. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST-GOBAIN, CHAUNY, ET CIREY, 1 bis, Place des Saussaies, Paris. Nov. 5, 1930, No. 33262. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1929. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to the method of making plate or sheet glass in which molten glass is poured from a pot on to a lower rolling-member which may consist either of a table or a roller. According to the invention, the backward flow of the glass, after being poured, is limited by a stop bar e, Fig. 1, having its front face, which comes into contact with the glass n, made concave towards the mass of glass. The position of the stop-bar may be adjusted, towards or away from the rolling- pass f, in accordance with the volume of glass to be rolled. The bar is also moved up to the roller c during the progress of the rolling operation, and its inclination is varied during the progress of the rolling, as shown in Fig. 2, in order to modify the contact of its front wall with the mass of glass. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a doubleroll machine. The axis of the upper roll c may be swung about that of the lower roll b, as described in Specification 346,601. The bar e is also rotatable about the axis of the roll b in order to bring it nearer the roll c. It is also rotatable about its lower edge in order to vary its inclination to the surface of the roll b.
