Abstract
344,745. Glass manufacture. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY, ET CIREY, 1 bis, Place des Saussaies, Paris. June 25, 1930, No. 19329. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1929. Addition to 343,860. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to means for carrying out the method, described in the parent Specification, of replacing the impressing-roller of a machine for making figured plate glass in continuous strips. The apparatus comprises a pair of rollers c, d which form a strip w from a stream a of molten glass flowing from a spout p projecting from a tank furnace b, the upper roller c being suitably engraved to form the required pattern on the strip. Two impressing-rollers c, c<1> are mounted between endplates f provided with trunnions g which are carried by levers h. These levers are pivoted to the frame k of the machine and carry adjustable counterweights j. The plates f have notches l, l<1> to receive a latch bar m secured to the frame k. Abutment screws n serve as rests or supports for the levers h and allow the width of the pass between the two rollers c, d, and therefore the thickness of the glass strip formed by them, to be regulated. When the impressing-roller c is to replaced, a movable gate e is lowered to reduce the thickness of the stream of glass flowing through the spout. The latch bar m is then removed from the notches l<1>, the endplates f are lifted by means of the levers h, and the plates, and the rollers they support are rotated to bring the roller c<1> into the lowermost position. The plates f are then lowered and locked, and the roller c can be removed when desired.
