Abstract

343,668. Drawing - dies. S I M 0 N S, M., 333, West 52nd Street, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 30, 1929, No. 39804. [Class 83 (iv).] Tungsten carbide is used in the manufacture of wire drawing dies. A steel plug 11 is heated to red-heat while in a press, a nib 10 of tungsten carbide is inserted into the plug, and the end of the tube is forged over to form a shoulder 12. The plug is cooled, machined to a taper and forced into a tapered hole in a holder 14. The nib may be formed of material of a composition, tungsten carbide 85 per cent, cobalt 10 per cent and carbon 5 per cent.
