[Class 83 (iv).] A die is composed of an effective portion a<2> of the required diameter, which leads into an enlarged portion a<3> which does not come into contact with the work. The die A may be soldered or shrunk into a holder B, and is formed from a sintered hard material such as carbides or nitrides of the chromium or vanadium groups to which metals such as iron, cobalt, or nickel may be added. A part of greater taper may be formed between the parts a<2>, a<3>. A die for forming strips is made by replacing the die member A by two interengaging members D, E, Fig. 4.
