397,458. Making spinning-spindles. SACO-LOWELL SHOPS, 1, Federal Street, Boston, U.S.A. Nov. 19, 1931, No. 32082. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 83 (ii).] Hollow spindles comprise three parts, viz. a hollow blade 4, a wharl 2 and a bearing- blade 3 formed separately, the wharl and the blade 4 being made of steel and secured together by soldering, sweating, brazing, or welding, and the blade 3 being forced into the wharl as customary. The blade 4 may be made from a steel tube blank by turning the exterior surface to the required taper and drilling the interior to the stepped formation shown or reamering it to a continuous taper, or a steel tube blank may be subjected to rolling or swaging to the desired taper. A cap 9 with an eccentric shank 10 is adjusted in the top of the blade 4 for balancing purposes.
