Abstract
469,931. Making tubes. SCHUSTER, H. Feb. 9, 1937, No. 3846. Convention date, July 2, 1936. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Cold rolling.-Metal tube is formed to exact wall thickness but oversize external diameter by cold pilgering over a conical mandrel which, as the rolls wear can be shifted in to maintain the wall thickness, the desired external diameter then being obtained by passing the tube without a mandrel through pairs of vertical and horizontal rolls. The tube may be finally forced through a drawing die without a mandrel, the drawing reduction being so small as not to effect appreciably the size or surface of the work.
