Abstract

343,383. Window frames. STUART, F. J., Kinnoull, Holyport Road, Bray, Berkshire. April 16, 1930, No. 11994. [Class 20 (iii).l A means for holding a sliding window in any position of adjustment comprises an angularlymovable cam, in the form of a bar disposed alongside the vertical edge of the sash and adapted to engage the face of the latter directly or to press inwards on opposed flexible or resilient side of the channel in which the sash slides. According to one construction, Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the window 1 of a vehicle door is arranged to slide in flexible channels or linings 2 fitted in rigid outer casings 3 of metal. One side of the casing 3 is recessed and houses a cam-bar 5 which, when rotated, is adapted to press one side of the channel 2 against the face of the window. The cams are actuated by a lever 10 pivoted on a pin 11 on a bracket 12 which is attached to the garnish rail of the door. Links 15 are connected to the lever 10 by pins 13, 14, respectively, and each link is secured to a pullrod 17 by nuts 19. The outer end of each pull-rod engages with a pin 9 on a cranked arm 8 of the respective cam bar, whereby the cam bars are rotated to clamp the window when the lever 10 is operated. The channels 3 are made in two sections, the upper section being removable when it is desired to remove the window. A covering 6 of plush or other suitable fabric encloses the rubber channel and prevents the rubber from adhering to the glass. In a modification, one side of the rubber channel is arranged to enclose the cam bar. In another modification, Fig. 7, the channel is in two parts, the one part 25, of rubber or other soft material, surrounding and moving with the cam bar. A hole or passage 26 extending throughout the whole length of the part 25 serves to give a better cushioning effect when the window is clamped. Specification 328,074, [Class 20 (iii), Doors &c.], is referred to.
